Completed 2007
As part of the overall master plan for the Golden Gate University campus in San Francisco, a 30,200 SF expansion of the existing historic warehouse building located at 40 Jesse Street provided critical space for non-academic student services. The 50,000 SF building now houses the GGU Bookstore, Student Center Cafe, a lounge area, and a "one stop shop" for admissions, the Center for Academic and Professional Success, financial aid, and student life.
The design reused most of the existing structure and removed, refurbished, and reinstalled the existing windows and barn doors to maintain the original historic character of the exterior while updating the building by fully insulating the shell and installing new energy efficient building systems. The two story addition to the top of the building is set back and reflects a modern contemporary style that complements but does not mimic the original historic character.
